A little note on the start of this grand adventure.
I’ve been staring at this screen trying to figure out how to start this post. Writing has never been my strong suit—give me numbers, spreadsheets, or data any day—but storytelling? Not so much. Still, here we go.
My husband, Troy, is a man of ideas. Big ones. Constant ones. If you know him, you know that most of those ideas come and go like weather fronts—here for a moment, then replaced by the next big thought. But the idea of a lavender farm? That one kept coming back. Over and over.
We’ve always known that we wanted to do something meaningful with our little piece of land, but we had no clue what that would look like. Then, after a whole lot of research and what felt like a master’s degree in YouTube University, Troy landed solidly on lavender farming… and pitched it to me.
Now, something important you should know about my husband: he can figure out how to do anything. And I’m not being dramatic. The man can build, fix, create, or engineer just about anything he decides he wants to learn. It’s one of his greatest gifts… and occasionally one of my biggest headaches. Because while it saves us a lot of money, it also leads to big projects. (Cue: lavender farm.)
So when he came to me with the idea—research, planting strategies and all—I was hesitant. Not because I didn’t believe in him, but because I’m the realist in our relationship. I’m the person who asks, “Will this work? Can we manage it? What does this actually mean for our life?” I analyze. I weigh. I try to see the whole picture before we jump.
But with all the research he laid out (which made my science-loving, numbers-driven brain very happy) and knowing full well that Troy can bring any idea to life if he’s determined enough, I found myself saying something I wasn’t expecting:
“Okay… let’s do it.”
And just like that, our lavender adventure began.
